Wedding and prom dresses have long been a passion of mine as they often rekindle memories of all the fantastic theatre costumes I've worked on over the years. Your wedding and prom are probably the biggest fashion events of your life and you need to know your precious dress is in safe hands, and with over 30 years experience I think it's safe to say I'll take the greatest care of your beautiful dress. After all, your dress is such a huge part of your big day, wedding or prom. I also cater for the entire bridal party so whether it's the bride, groom, bridesmaids, flower-girls or mother of the bride/groom that need my services I'm happy to help.
So when should you get in touch?
It's never too soon to get in touch is probably the best answer to that question. Last year I turned away more work than I actually took on as my order book for the entire year was pretty much full for weddings by January! Whilst the actual fittings and sewing only really take about 6 weeks I can't stress enough how important it is to get in the queue as soon as you can to ensure I'm actually available to alter your dress. I limit the number of wedding gowns I take on to ensure every client gets the full attention they deserve.
As a guide, and going by previous years I would advise contacting me at least 6-12 MONTHS ahead of your wedding. Having said all that if you've left it a little late and only just found your ideal dress then there's never any harm in giving me a call to check my availability.
So how do you go about getting your gown altered?
You can either call or email me to arrange a
NO OBLIGATION CONSULTATION.
These are available on a Monday & Friday during the hours of 11am to 6pm. It's best to allow an hour for your initial appointment.
Please limit the number of people who come with you to your fittings to yourself and one other as my workroom has limited space.
During your appointment you will have the opportunity to try on your dress and I can take a look and see what needs to be done to ensure you look your best on your big day. It's at this point I'll be able to give you a definite quote on the alterations required on your dress. As no two dresses are the same visually and how they are made it's impossible for me to quote for work until I can actually see the garment on. As a guide though wedding and prom dress alterations start at £25 to take in a bodice and £25 to shorten them, although it does depend on whether the bodice is boned, beaded or it has numerous layers and this is true of the skirt too. Beading and layers will add to the cost as it takes much more time to alter but there is absolutely no obligation and I'm happy to offer my experience and advice freely. You then have 7 days to decide. If you are happy with the quote and decide to proceed you will be required to pay a 20% non-returnable deposit either by cash or bank transfer within those 7 days. Once the deposit has been received we'll then look at mutually suitable appointment dates for your fittings. Wedding dresses usually require 3 fittings but more complex alterations may need considerably more. I aim to complete all dresses no later than 4 weeks prior to your big day. You'll then be invited back for your final fitting to make sure everything is just perfect. The remaining balance must be paid, once fittings commence either by cash or bank transfer.
But that's it. I aim to make your experience as stress free and relaxing as possible with a personal touch that you wouldn't necessarily get with a shop.
If I've forgotten anything please either email me, Facebook message via my business page (click on the Facebook icon above) or give me a call and I'll happily answer any questions you may have.
Unfortunately due to an increasing number of people not turning up for appointments and worse still not notifying me I have had to make the decision to take a £20 deposit in order to book an appointment. This is required within 24 hours of booking the appointment otherwise I will release that slot.
The deposit is fully refundable so long as you either
a) give me 7 days notice of cancellation or
b) you attend the appointment even if you don't want/need the alterations doing once you've been quoted as I always quote without obligation.
I've had to apply this as a deterrent as I have many people requesting appointments who can't get them. Please accept my apologies but a few have spoiled it for the main
With thanks to all these beautiful ladies who kindly gave me their permission to publish photos of their special day.
It was an absolute pleasure working with you all and congratulations!
